WHEN IT comes to cargo packaging, getting
it right first time round is crucial – and that
means dealing only with reputable suppliers.
Kempton Park-based Hexagon Packaging
was set up to cater for the logistical needs of
the market in South Africa, with the focus on
reliable, innovative, tailor-made solutions.
The company is a supplier of United Nations
(UN) certified packaging for the transport of
dangerous goods by air, sea and land.
“We offer advice and technical expertise
and stock a wide range of UN-approved
packaging, certified after performance testing
for all packing groups, covering both single and
combination packaging,” says Hexagon’s Andre
Greyvenstein.
“Performance testing includes drop, stack
and water testing. Additional items such as
hazardous labels, trem cards, inner packaging
materials and palletising of hazardous cargo into
over packs is also available.”
Goods are packed and documented to
comply with current air (Iata) and sea (IMDG)
regulations, he added.
But the company’s portfolio extends beyond
pure packaging to include the classification of
hazardous cargo, cargo inspections, repacking
and redocumenting shipments in transit and
preparing new sets of shippers’ declarations for
dangerous goods by air, sea and road.
“And we’re also able to transport the
cargo using our range of vehicles, all of which
comply with the road regulations for the
transport of dangerous goods and flammable
cargo,” he said.
Hexagon Packaging is registered with
the department of agriculture to supply
the certification mark in terms of ISPM 15
guidelines regulating wood packing material in
international trade. “This means that the wood
we use in the crating of cargo has been treated
against pests and does not require fumigation
and therefore no fumigation costs will be
added,” he said.
The company also carries a range of wrapping
and strapping materials for cargo palletisation.
