Ryanair has called on the UK government to push for aviation negotiations with the European Union and provide a rational post-Brexit aviation plan, or risk leaving the UK without any flights to/from Europe for a period from March 2019.
As the UK leaves Europe’s ‘Open Skies’ system, Ryanair says the UK government will have to negotiate a bilateral agreement with the EU to allow flights to/from Europe.
Ryanair’s chief marketing officer, Kenny Jacobs, said that following the Brexit referendum nine months ago, the industry was no closer to knowing what effect it would have on aviation.
“It’s become worrying that the UK Government seems to have no plan B to maintain Britain’s liberalised air links with Europe, in the absence of remaining in the ‘Open Skies’ regime.”
Jacobs added that Ryanair, like many airlines, planned its flights 12 months in advance, and he said he was worried that Britain might not be able to negotiate a bilateral agreement in time for the release of airlines’ summer 2019 schedules in mid-2018.
