Twala Global achieves BEE milestone

TWALA GLOBAL Cargo has achieved Level 2 BEE status with a recognition level of 125%. The National Empowerment Rating Agency has certified that the company is in full compliance with the BEE Act and the BEE Code of good practice. “This provides a knock-on boost to our clients’ own BEE programmes,” says general manager Richard Adamson. “In practical terms, every rand they spend with us is credited at R 1.25 towards their preferential procurement scorecard. As this includes disbursements such as customs dues, freight and transportation, warehousing and insurance and service fees, the impact is significant.” Preferential procurement is one of the seven dimensions of broad-based black economic empowerment and is a vital credential for companies supplying the mines, government or tendering for multinational business where BEE status is a condition of appointment, says Adamson. Twala Global Cargo was founded in March 2002 as the Clover Cargo Group’s BEE Enterprise Development company. “We set ourselves the objectives of attracting new business through competitive positioning while pursuing real and sustainable BEE goals,” says Adamson. The company has attracted clients in the high-tech, communications, machinery, chemicals and retail sectors. National Empowerment Rating Agency is a Broad Base BEE verification agency that operates in compliance with the requirements for accreditation bodies defined by the South Africa National Accreditation Service.
