Transport and storage industry makes R401.9bn in 2013

Income for South Africa’s transport and storage industry amounted to R401.9 billion in 2013 – a 10.7% per annum increase over the 2010 figures, according to a statement by the Department of Transport (DoT).

The total income from ‘services for railway freight’ in 2013 was R30.6 billion and income from ‘services for roadfreight’ came to R74.7 billion.

The largest income from services by type of freight was for ‘break bulk/cargo transported as a unit or packaged’ at a total amount of R31.7 billion (42.4%).
