Trade fair highlights trends

Trends in Mozambique’s trade partners and profile emerged from the 49th Maputo International Fair (Facim) held at the end of August 2013 in Maputo. There were 1 398 Mozambican and 650 foreign exhibitors at the show. Countries represented included South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Swaziland, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, China, Argentina, Brazil, Portugal, Turkey, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Poland and Macau. Japan, Sweden, Argentina and Turkey took part for the first time. Italy had over 50 exhibitors. The fair attracted 82 000 visitors, which was a 26% rise compared to the 65 000 visitors received by the fair in 2012, according to the organisers, the Institute for Export Promotion (Ipex), which is responsible for organising Facim. It says 10 export contracts were signed for exports of Mozambican products, many of which are in the agricultural sector.
