It is vital for the Port of Durban
to continue to develop its
export-led strategy, according
to Zeph Ndlovu, chairman
of the Durban Chamber of
Commerce.
And this, he told FTW, was
a motivation behind Transnet
Port Terminals (TPT) and
the SA-German Chamber of
Commerce last week co-hosting
a meeting with recently
appointed German ambassador,
Walter J. Lindner, and the
embassy’s economic counsellor,
Dr Falk R. Bömeke, at TPT's
head office in Durban. The two
diplomats also met with the
key automotive manufacturers
and component suppliers who
attended this B2B meeting.
It was an effort to “forge
new strategic relationships”
with Germany – a major
player in SA industry in
general and especially in the
automotive industry – and to
“work together on corporate
partnerships”, Ndlovu added.
“We have the truck maker,
MAN, based here in Pinetown,
for example, and about 600
other German companies
spread around the country.”
