There’s been a change at the helm of CMA-CGM Agencies in SA, as Rhett van Zyl takes over as MD from Philippe Fozzani – who has relocated to Mayotte to establish a trade link for the line with the Comores. “Obviously,” said Van Zyl, “the intention is to grow the business in Southern Africa. “CMA-CGM is one of the world’s largest container shipping lines, but the presence of CMA-CGM and sister line Delmas (the African specialist in the group) in Southern Africa could be bigger. And that’s my task.” Van Zyl has lots of plans for possible new routes and services, but all of these have to be modelled to suit the lines before any designs can be revealed. But, Van Zyl added, while the line is examining a lot of possibilities, much of this information still remains confidential. “It’s early days yet,” he said, “but my mandate is to develop the line’s profile in the region.”
