Thai Airways has refuted claims that the airline is in peril and there is a risk of ceasing operations.
It has been widely reported in international media that Thai Airways’ president allegedly told staff in an internal meeting that the loss-making airline was in a crisis, urging staff to rally to ensure its survival.
Thai Airways responded to these reports with a statement issued this week saying reports were false and that its president’s messages had been misconstrued.
“The meeting that was held with Thai Airways staff was intended to bring about employee awareness of the highly competitive state of the airline industry and Thai Airways’ competitive stance in the market. Thai Airways’ president spoke to staff in order to motivate them to take immediate action to cut costs and boost profits,” the airline said.
“We are currently collaborating with various trade partners to establish Thai Airways in both the southern African market and in the rest of Africa,” said Thai Airways manager for Africa, Isla Moffett.
