TFR to increase coal trains

TRANSNET FREIGHT Rail has set a two month deadline to increase weekly deliveries to the Richards Bay coal terminal from 1.43 to 1.5 million tons. That’s the message from CEO Siyabonga Gama who told delegates at the recent Coaltrans conference that the rail utility would add two new trains to achieve this goal. According to Gama, 67 million tons of coal were handled in 2006/07 compared to 69.7 million tons in 2005/06, a decline he attributed to bad weather.
