TFR punts Maputo corridor

The Port of Maputo is not a competitor to South African ports, but rather a complementary port, says Alex Masianoga, Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) executive manager, strategy. Speaking at a Maputo Corridor Logistics Initiative (MCLI) open day and networking event in Johannesburg last Friday, Masianoga said the Port of Maputo and its links to the hinterland were an integral part of the logistical transportation chain of southern Africa as a whole. “It may seem strange that we are promoting a different port to our own, but the Ressano Garcia line is regarded as a cost-effective route from Mpumalanga and certain Gauteng areas for a range of commodities.
