KEVIN MAYHEW CONCENTRATING ON the shipping of fruit, fish and temperature sensitive pharmaceuticals into areas like Africa which have lower technology levels has resulted in the introduction of two new products by Marathon Products Inc. In 2005 it will introduce the single use temperature data logger (EDL IQ), which is a credit card-sized unit that displays all statistical data of a shipment on the front of the unit. “This is beneficial to our exports, particularly into Africa, where downloading facilities are seldom available. The exporter is getting a far more accurate and smaller unit that will take up less room in the carton than the old strip chart recorder. The recipient does not necessarily need to link up to a personal computer to read a recording and it is available at a competitive price,” explained co-owner of the family owned business, Samantha Sharkey. Its second new product is also a single use temperature data logger, the MDL. It’s the size of a R5 coin, with probe attached, and with more sophisticated electronics than the EDL IQ. This unit is aimed at the laboratory and technical market spaces and will be competitively priced against other single use data loggers in the marketplace. Lowdon Agencies is the sole agent for Marathon Products Inc of America which manufactures data loggers for the shipping of perishables, the semi-conductor industry as well as stationary (warehouse and coldstores) and laboratory applications.
