Progress has been made on the US$1.5-billion Tema port expansion project, according to the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
A GPHA statement noted that the construction of the 1 800 metres of breakwater had begun deep into the sea and one of the largest dredgers in the world had been deployed to the site to dredge for the quay wall.
Additionally, the setting up of a factory plant for the concrete to be used for the quay wall was under way and 70 out of the 168 acres of land required had been reclaimed from the sea for the construction of terminals.
A spokesperson for the authority pointed out that the project was currently on schedule and that it was expected to be completed and operational by the fourth quarter of 2019.
