“We must address
technology as well as
our rail network if we
want to truly see success
from our investments.”
This was the warning
issued by Lanfranc
Situma, deputy directorgeneral
of NATMAP
2050, during a recent
presentation on the
massive rail investments
being made in South
Africa.
“Along with the
investment in new
rolling stock, new
networks and new
technology, we also
have to take a long hard
look at how cargo is
moved in the country
and where it is being
moved from,” he said.
“It is pointless to just
invest for the sake of
investing.”
