A TOTAL OF 360 taxis have received permits to operate cross border services to neighbouring states, according to Cross-Border Road Transport Agency c.e.o. August Maluleka.
A Regulatory Committee established by the department of transport last November decided that no taxi licence or permit authorising an operator to undertake cross-border transport would be issued without a valid passenger liability cover, a step which had never been taken previously in the industry.
The Cross-Border agency subsequently negotiated with various insurance companies in this respect, and now three have agreed to cover the 360 taxis involved.
