Combining value for money with the practical needs of the heavy vehicle transport industry, Indian manufacturer Tata has launched a new 6 ton model and upgraded three of its ‘bestsellers’ to provide improved performance and fuel efficiency. The upgraded LPT 809 and the LPT 813 Chassis Cab models now feature increased GVM and turbo-charged engines while ergonomic seats, a mobile phone charger and utility lamp improve driver comfort. A new clutch and gearbox as well as several cabin enhancements have been added to the 8 tonner LPT 1518, one of the best sellers in its category. Customer feedback was the motivation behind the launch of the all new LPT 1116 in the 6 ton category, operations manager of Tata Automobile Corporation (SA) Doug Viljoen told FTW. “Our strongest attributes are that our vehicles are good value for money and we have a versatile and flexible warranty extending up to 300 000km or three years, depending on the model,” he said. The company has an extensive network of 31 dealers in all regions of South Africa. “This ensures that vehicles are efficiently and speedily maintained. Our full after sales service division carries all available parts and our 24 hour/seven day a week roadside assistance is also available at no extra cost.” The company’s strong environmental awareness ensured that it was well ahead of meeting the EURO2 fuel emission regulations which came into effect in January 2010, said Viljoen “With all the transportation contracts rolling out ahead of the World Cup, we were an integral part of the process beginning in 2007/2008. 30-35% of our customers come from the fleet management and commercial transport industry and we believe Tata has made a significant contribution to 2010 through longhaul transportation.”
