Mozambique is ranked second to Mauritius in the regional “Trading Across Borders” category, at 94th globally.In comparison, South Africa is ranked 145th. It is quicker and cheaper to move freight in and out of Mozambique than neighbouring South Africa.It is nearly 25% quicker to export from Mozambique than it is from South Africa – 102 hours compared to 160 hours in South Africa and an average of 169 for sub-Saharan Africa.At US$752, it costs Mozambican importers over 40% less than what it does their South African neighbours (US$1 312).For imports (25 hours), it takes 20% of the time required in South Africa (123 hours).The import costs of US$459 are 38% less than South Africa’s US$749.
