Work on the construction of the first wind power plant in Mozambique is under way in Namaacha district in the southern province of Maputo. The private infrastructure, worth about $280 million, is expected to have the capacity to produce an average of 120 megawatts of energy for the state electricity company EDM to distribute when it goes into operation in three years’ time. "Parts of the new plant are already being built and construction will take about three years to complete. We will connect the Boane substation to EDM, which will distribute it to the final consumer," said project manager Pedro Coutinho during a recent radio interview. The manager added that the new plant would provide clean, renewable and sustainable energy to the country. Meanwhile, it will create more than 700 new jobs, most of them for local individuals, as from 2021. – African News Agency
