With its order for 20 additional Boeing 747-8 freighters (See FTWO June 18), the Russian cargo carrier, Volga-Dnepr Airlines, will expand its fleet by over 60% in the next seven years.
A specialist in oversize and super-heavy cargo transportation, the Volga-Dnepr group includes three leading Russian all-cargo carriers – Volga-Dnepr Airlines, AirBridgeCargo Airlines and Atran Airlines.
It currently operates 10 Antonov 124-100 “Ruslans” (the biggest serial heavy-lifter in the world), five Ilyushin 76TD-90VDs, five Boeing 747-400ERFs (extended range freighters), three Boeing 747-400Fs, six Boeing 747-8Fs and three Boeing 737-400Fs.
The new 747-8Fs have a payload capacity of 140 000 kilograms (140 metric tonnes).
