President Jacob Zuma has told cabinet ministers in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) to stop wasteful spending or face consequences.
This followed the auditor-general’s report on the 468 national and provincial government departments and state entities, which showed financial maladministration costing R25.7-billion this year.
Africa News Agency quoted Zuma as stressing that this did not necessarily mean that taxpayers’ money was being stolen, but in most cases were procedures set-out in the act not being followed.
