Stolen vehicle smuggling to Moz becoming a major crime

Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison Vusi Shongwe visited Mozambique and raised concerns with the authorities in Matola near Maputo about the escalating incidents of vehicle smuggling. The Mozambiquan authorities advised Shongwe to remove all corrupt officers at borders and roads. Shongwe told the Mozambiquan authorities his department planned to set up a unit to be attached at the Lebombo border in Komatipoort in an effort to control the criminal activities. Recent vehicle smuggling included a man being arrested in Kaapmuiden by police while allegedly driving a stolen truck worth millions of rands to Mozambique, according to a report from provinces@thenewage.co.za The vehicle was reported to have been stolen at Mokgopong (previously Naboomspruit). Mozambique also made headlines when a man was arrested at Malelane near the border, after he was allegedly found driving a luxury bus valued at R1-million, stolen in Olifantsfontein near Midrand in Gauteng
