DSR-Senator link offers
comprehensive
hinterland coverage
WITH THE appointment of Diamond Shipping as local agent for the H Stinnes Line service between South Africa and the North West Continent. the line is keen to raise its profile among the local shipping community.
In South African last week to touch base with local clients was Hamburg-based c.e.o. Dr K-L Zerbin, and sales and marketing manager Reinhardt Menzel, who pointed out that the company's involvement on the route goes back 13 years. (See box below) Stinnes currently offers a weekly named-day service between South Africa and the NWC,
slot-chartering space on Mediterranean Shipping Company vessels. MSC was the previous agent for the service in South Africa.
The decision to change agents was not taken easily, but we felt that we needed to build up the identity of Stinnes in the market and that motivated the move, Zerbin told FTW.
We saw Diamond as the ideal choice, being small, personalised, with a national infrastructure and with no conflict of interest with existing business.
The slot charter arrangement allows for a fixed number of slots with the flexibility to adjust these up or down. And Zerbin is happy that there is sufficient room for growth.
In today's market there are two basic philosophies, says Zerbin. Either you become a global player, or you serve a niche market., and Stinnes has chosen the latter course.
Through its association with DSR-Senator, which is a global carrier, the line is able to offer a comprehensive hinterland service covering France, North West Continent, the Baltic, Poland, Russia, Hungary, Scandinavia, UK and Ireland.
Stinnes also operates its own services from Europe to the Caribbean, West and East Africa.
