Still place for smaller agencies

There is still space in the Zambian market for smaller agencies as they are more flexible and offer the personal touch that does not come as easily for bigger companies, says Perry Siatulye of Ndola-based Halifax Freight Services. “We are always flexible. As the owner and manager I do not just sit in my office. I get involved in the operations myself.” His speciality is clearing. “My life is clearing,” he says. Siatulye also has first-hand experience of being a shipper himself as he imports toys and other goods to his own account for sale and distribution. It and other small agencies punch above their weight through partnerships. “You need to be well connected all along the route in order to provide quality service,” he says.
