Spoornet acts to reduce noise damage

LEONARD NEILL SPOORNET HAS taken decisive action to address unacceptable noise levels caused by their locomotives. A project team has developed a prototype that enhances communication critical for the operation of a train and also enables Spoornet to issue hearing protection that will reduce the noise levels to below the prescribed levels. This follows complaints from the United Transport & Allied Workers Union (UTATU). “We cannot reverse the damage already caused over the past decade or so, but we believe that we can prevent further health risks,” says Spoornet spokesman Japan Pohlwana.
