WITH A range of rising costs pulsing through the freight industry, it is not only space but expertise that is at a premium. “Industry costs across the board have increased, especially in the handling of special equipment,” explains Clinton Venske, Gauteng general manager for Spedag South Africa. “Trained staff are often poached, creating a gap in the workforce and then a need to re-train,” says Venske. Spedag is currently doubling the size of its warehouse in order to cater for growing demand for free-store and bonded cargo. “We are also seeing incredible growth in our traditional markets of container unpacking and bulk distribution, project staging and consolidations. “Efficient planning allows cargo to be stored in specific locations and not moved around, reducing the risk of damage and insurance involvement.”
