Chief executive of Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), Karl Socikwa, has resigned from his position and will leave at the end of this month to pursue a career outside the group. Themba Gwala has been appointed acting CE.
TPT would reveal no further details on the reason for Socikwa’s departure.
He has held the position since November 2009.
A lawyer by profession, he joined the Transnet group in 1999.
His successor brings to the position many decades of experience within the group.
He will be appointed TPT chief operations officer (COO) once he has served out his time as acting CE.
Before joining TPT, he was the general manager for the Container & Automotive Business Unit (CAB) at Transnet Freight Rail (TFR).
The CAB was his brainchild, according to a TFR spokesman, and based on its success the whole of TFR was restructured into business units based on the commodities transported.
