Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) recorded sizeable growth in cargo volumes handled in March this year, according to a statement released by the airport last week.
Cargo volumes registered an 11.5% year-on-year increase to 1.1 million tonnes for the first three months of 2017, while imports and transhipments also experienced double-digit growth.
A year-on-year increase was recorded for cargo traffic at 17.8% and was largely driven by exports which recorded considerable growth of 24%.
Deputy director for airport operations at the Airport Authority Hong Kong, Vivian Cheung, added that among the key trading regions, the most significant increases were shown by Europe and North America.
On a rolling 12-month basis, HKIA has handled about 4.6 million tonnes of cargo.
