LEONARD NEILL
THE PLATINUM Highway, the 2000km route which links four countries and two oceans, was officially opened by Minister of Transport Jeff Radebe last week.
The highway, which has taken eight years to complete, has been developed by the SA National Roads Agency Ltd (Sanral). It links Mozambique, South Africa, Botswana and Namibia, and stretches between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The final section now completed links the Trans Kalahari Highway, which travels through Namibia and Botswana, and the Maputo Corridor from Gauteng to the Mozambique port of Maputo.
“This road reduces the travelling time from Gauteng to Walvis Bay by around 500km,” Radebe said.
