The global shipping industry has reduced total carbon dioxide emissions by more than 10% since 2007, according to the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS).
And a 2014 study by the UN’s International Maritime Organisation (IMO) shows international shipping has cut its share of the world’s total CO2 emissions from 2.8% in 2007 to 2.2% last year.
With bigger and super fuel-efficient ships, many ships engines using clean fuels like liquid natural gas (LNG), and better speed management, the ICS predicts a 50% CO2 reduction by 2050.
