Sometimes all it takes to
increase volumes is to knock
on doors and to tell shippers
about the advantages of using a
particular corridor.
That’s the experience of Beira
Logistics Terminals (BLT), which
is seeing growing volumes of
copper moving along the Beira
corridor to the warehouse since
appointing a sales and marketing
representative based in Lusaka.
A dedicated salesperson is
needed to change perceptions
about the port of Beira, according
to Jonathan Middleton, BLT
general manager.
“We are now seeing fewer
damages, less demurrage and
faster vessel turnaround time,
which has resulted in less short
shipping, where containers are left
on the quayside because the vessel
has to sail to catch the tide,” he
says.
The word is getting out, and
volumes of copper are growing
once again, he says.
