The Maputo Port
Development Company is
inviting laboratory operators
to set up shop in the port.
“We need a laboratory, particularly
for the chrome exports,” says
commercial director Johann Botha.
Maputo is now handling the
bulk of chrome exports from the
region, and has secured three-year
contracts.
“For the last five months every
month has set new records for the
tonnage of chrome being loaded,”
he says.
These volumes will provide
guaranteed income for the
laboratory, which will also be
able to test other commodities
being handled by the port – and to
expand its services outside of the
port.
At present samples have to be
taken to South Africa for testing.
