restaurants of the Southern Sun
Maputo hotel is always interesting.

conference venues that were built as
part of a major upgrade of the hotel
completed about a year ago.
The venues accommodate 30-160
delegates cinema-style and up to 150
for a banquet.

conferences, according to the hotel’s
general manager Bruce Chapman.
Maputo, he says, is the
most accessible destination in
Mozambique.
The city is also one of the best
connected in the
region outside of
Johannesburg.

Airways and the
Mozambican
airline LAM
offer a number
of flights a
day between
Gauteng and
Maputo.
International
carriers include
Etihad, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian
Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Kenya
Airways, KLM, Air France, TAP Air
Portugal and United Airlines.
They link the Mozambican capital
to most other major cities in Africa
and to Europe.
Maputo is also the hub for flights
to the northern Mozambican cities of
Beira, Nacala, Tete, Chimoio, Pemba,
Quelimane, Inhambane and Nacala.
This connectivity makes it a
natural business hub.
Snatches of conversations in
accents and languages from around
the world heard in passing or while
enjoying refreshments, a snack
or meal in one of the refurbished
restaurants and lounges at the
Southern Sun Maputo bear
testament to the international mix of
guests at the hotel.
Guests do not have to leave
the hotel for meals as there is the
on-site Evolve Restaurant serving
many of the local dishes for which
Mozambique is famous – including
prawns.
Despite the hotel having more
than doubled in size, Chapman
and his team have maintained the
personal touch and high standards of
service. The hotel has the Tripadvisor
Certificate of Excellence, which
is awarded to accommodation
establishments, attractions and
restaurants that consistently earn
great reviews from travellers,
according to the service.
