JL Koekemoer has been appointed general manager of freight software specialist ShipShape. Koekemoer joined the company ten years ago as a junior developer, having cut his teeth in system design and programming. ShipShape was his first introduction to the freight industry. The company’s focus for the future is to gain a stronger foothold in the corporate market, he told FTW. “We have previously focused on small and medium companies, but many of them have matured and become bigger corporates. The challenge for us is to ensure that our product is scaleable and customisable so that it accommodates all players – from small businesses to industry majors.” And for Koekemoer, who has been closely involved with the Customs Modernisation process, the current focus is on changes to the new tariff book as well as the Automated Cargo Management system (previously the Manifest Acquittal System) which is set to also include exports. A roadfreight pilot is planned at the Kopfontein border post in the next couple of weeks.
