The southern half of South Africa’s main supply chain artery remains closed this morning but the section of the highway between Harrismith and Cedara should soon be reopened, the N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) company has said.
In a statement circulated by the Transit Assistance Bureau, the N3TC said “with the support of law enforcement agencies and the South African National Defence Force, plans are in place for urgent maintenance work”.
These included recovery as well as clean-up and repairs required for the reopening of this important strategic transport corridor, the N3TC added.
Reopening the section of the highway that has been closed because of the violence that has destabilised KwaZulu-Natal, will be done as soon as the Provincial Joint Operational Centre deems it safe and secure to do so.
The N3TC emphasised that it would immediately notify all stakeholders when it got the go-ahead to reopen the section from Cedara to Harrismith.
