The South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (Satawu) has issued the Road Freight Association with a notice of its intention to strike on February 13.
The three other unions, which have been involved in wage negotiations with the RFA, have not issued similar notices and it remains unclear whether they will be joining Satawu in the national strike involving all its members in the transport and logistics industry.
According to the RFA, there's no change to the list of demands in the strike notice received from Satawu. These include a 20% wage increase over the next two years, the complete banning of labour brokers in the industry as well as increases in medical aid and provident funds.
Only the Transport Workers’ Union (MTWU) has agreed to meet for further negotiations, said a spokesman from the RFA.
