SA's electric car production plans

Although General
Motors is busy producing
Chevrolet Bolt electric
cars in the US, and
intending to have them
ready for the road
by year-end, its local
subsidiary, GM SA,
will not be involved at
this stage, according to
Gishma Johnson, Port
Elizabeth-based corporate
communications
manager.
Decisions on export
contracts for the righthand
drive vehicles
produced in SA, she told
FTW, were not decided
locally, but were rather a
head office function.
And GM SA at present
doesn’t have a large
export production
contract, its market being
mostly confined to sub-
Saharan Africa.
