The SA Revenue Service's annual report for 2006/7 reveals that R23.7 billion in customs duties was collected for the year. This was R497 million more than the original estimate. Sars achieved significant success in apprehending illicit goods. The report records 4 706 anti-smuggling seizures while R354 million worth of counterfeit goods and R250 million worth of cigarettes were seized.
