Samsa to host bunkering session

The South African Maritime Safety Authority (Samsa) will host a bunkering stakeholder engagement session on Tuesday at Algoa Bay (Port of Ngqura).

The session, which is being hosted as part of the government’s Transport Month events, comes at a pivotal time, following the lifting of the moratorium on bunkering activities in Algoa Bay.

Samsa said the meeting aimed to foster dialogue and collaboration between government, industry and environmental stakeholders on the future of the country’s bunkering sector.

Deputy Minister of Transport, Mkhuleko Hlengwa, will deliver the keynote address at the event.

“His participation underscores government’s commitment to ensuring a safe, environmentally responsible and economically sustainable bunkering industry,” Samsa said.

“The engagement will bring together key stakeholders, including bunkering operators, maritime authorities and environmental representatives to deliberate on opportunities and challenges facing the industry,” the authority said.

The programme will also include a guided visit to a bunkering site, providing members of the media with first-hand insights into operations.
