Sails imposes Nigerian war surcharge

WITH WHAT it described as “ongoing unrest in Nigerian waters” the SA shipping line SA Independent Liner Services (Sails) has imposed a war risk premium on its cargoes. “We regret this action,” said MD Ian Wicks, “but in the interest of security and protection of cargo we have no alternative.” The war risk premium for Lagos for breakbulk cargo is a surcharge of US$7.50/metric tonne, or Eur5.00/mt.
