JOY ORLEK FROM MAY 20 Safmarine will drop its Durban call westbound on the Samba service which links the Middle East and South America. “The service will proceed through Suez westbound with a replacement service deployed directly between Salalah and Durban to serve existing customer needs between West Central Asia and southern Africa,” a spokesman told FTW. “A further announcement will be made on service enhancements for our customers in the near future,” he said. Export customers in the Indian Ocean Islands will continue to be served with the IOI service calling directly at Salalah, he added. Meantime the Safmarine Nomazwe and Safmarine Nokwanda are now fully operational on the Europe – Southern Africa service, and with the incorporation of the last of the new ships from the other SAECS partners, the fleet renewal programme is complete.
