Safari adds eighth vessel

Direct call at Cape Town scheduled ALAN PEAT THERE ARE some big changes in the Safari service run by Safmarine/Maersk Line on the run between Asia and southern Africa – including extra vessels and new direct ports of call, and with the venerable Big Whites once again returning to their long-time home port of Cape Town. To cater for a growing customer need in the SA market, the lines have included an eighth vessel in the core Safari (Safari 1) service and introduced a direct call at Cape Town. There has also been the formation of a second Safari service (to be known as Safari 2) with direct calls in Singapore, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Elizabeth and Durban According to Southern Africa trades executive Alex de Bruyn: “Safmarine customers have welcomed the inclusion of Cape Town in the core Safari service and the return of the original Big Whites to the Mother City.” The SA Winterberg is scheduled to make the first direct call at Cape Town on March 17/18. The port rotation for the Safari 1 service is: Shanghai-Kaohsiung-Hong Kong-Tanjung Pelepas-Port Louis- Durban -Port Elizabeth-Cape Town.
