SA to host global dangerous goods symposium

WITH THE transport of dangerous goods being highlighted by the strict new regulations being put into place from August 1, it is an appropriate time for the "14th International Symposium on the Transport of Dangerous Goods" to be held in SA for the first time. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) holds these symposia at two-to-three year intervals and this year it is the turn of the SA Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) to act as host. The event will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg from September 3-5. The chosen subject for discussion is: "Transport of dangerous goods by sea and intermodal transport". The symposium is due to be opened by Minister of Transport Dullah Omar, with keynote speaker being Tom Allan, UK-based chairman of the IMO's Maritime Safety Committee (MSC). A safety-related exhibition will also be held at the same venue - with some stands still available. For further information phone SAMSA in Pretoria.
