South Africa has officially joined the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTFA) party after signing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTFA) agreement on Sunday.
Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, made the announcement in a video – recorded by the Department of Trade and industry and loaded on the dti Twitter page – on the side-lines of the 31st African Union Summit in Mauritania over the weekend. “We are now officially part of this club,” said Davies.
Being part of the AfCFTA as a “tool” to increase intra-Africa trade would see South Africa develop its value chains and move the country into “higher, more complex” production, he added.
