Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Llewellyn Landers, is in Madagascar on an official visit this week, presiding over a seminar that seeks to boost trade and political relations with the country.
The Department International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) said in a statement that the visit would also explore the establishment of a bilateral agreement between the two countries.
“South Africa strongly supports national reconciliation in Madagascar and enjoys sound economic relations with the world's fourth biggest island after Greenland, New Guinea and Borneo,” said Landers.
Total bilateral trade amounted to approximately R3 billion with South African exports totalling almost R1.7 billion and imports amounting to approximately R1.4 billion in 2014.
