Increasing trade between South Africa and Brazil is top of the agenda for both countries, said Riaan le Roux of the Department of Trade and Industry. “At present Brazil does not feature in our top ten trading partners from an import or export perspective. This is a matter that we must address and change.” He said while trade between South Africa and Brazil started from a low base, already there had been a notable increase. “We have learnt more from and about each other in the past ten years than in the preceding 200. The learning curve has been very steep but I think we are moving rapidly forward,” said Le Roux. Brazilian exports include mainly frozen poultry, while imports from South Africa comprise largely anthracite coal.
