IN A significant expansion of its product range, the RTT Group - a major player in SA's domestic distribution industry - has added an international forwarding and clearing function to its stable, trading under the RTT International banner.
Said MD, Gerry Robinson: With 1 400 staff, and a domestic fleet in excess of 400 trucks, the group is probably the largest independent distribution company in the country. Until now, it has been involved in domestic road and and airfreight, warehousing, distribution and pick-and-pack operations - but never had its own forwarding and clearing company.
However, Robinson is currently developing this new function - with RTT, he said, now adding the final leg to its total logistics chain.
We have set-up with a professional team in forwarding and clearing, he added, aiming to offer our services to the public market, and to RTT's existing client base.
The new company has already established its international network.
We have tied-up with a very large international forwarding group, Robinson said, which we utilise in 80% of the countries we are dealing with. The others are covered by agreements with independent agents in those countries.
The new international forwarding company has established its home base at Isando in Johannesburg.
