While the mining
industry will remain
one of the main
drivers of logistics
growth in sub-
Saharan Africa
(SSA) for some
time to come,
there is a lot of
potential growth
around renewable
energy, says
Dachser country
manager: South
Africa, Detlev
Duve.
He told FTW
that the Germanowned
logistics company was
working with three different solar
companies to provide logistics
services. “The most interesting
project is a solar farm being built
near the geographical centre of
South Africa. The first high cube
containers arrived there at the
beginning of
August, with
many more to
come by the end
of the year,” said
Duve.
Dachser South
Africa is also
targeting growth
in the automotive
industry, working
with the global
automotive
industry team to
develop strategies around this.
According to Duve, changes
in the global economy have
forced companies to streamline
their operations in a cost-cutting
move. “This has been good for the
logistics industry as it has led to
more outsourcing and the need to
look for a fully integrated logistics
partner,” he said, adding that fully
integrated logistics would be one of
the future drivers of growth in an
increasingly competitive supply
chain landscape.
“With new service offerings
such as warehousing and
distribution we are able
to offer the full scope of
logistics services already.
New developments in
information technology and
expansion into new markets will
also help us grow,” said Duve.
He pointed out that Dachser
also had a solid track record in
moving cargo in the SSA region.
