Rehabilitation for main road in Moz

The National Road Fund (ANE) has announced that rehabilitation work to the 96-kilometre stretch of road between Xai Xai and Chissibuca will be completed in May, said a Macauhub report carried by the Mozambique Investor. The contractor responsible is the China Henan International Corporation (CHICO). Works to the road began in January 2009, and were budgeted at US$41-million. The town of Xai Xai is 200-km from Maputo is situated on the banks of the Limpopo river and is the capital of Gaza Province. There is a good road (the EN1) from Maputo to Xai-Xai which connects in the west with the roads from Namaacha (border post with Swaziland) and Ressano Garcia (with SA). Chissibuca is north of Xai Xai on the EN1, which runs up the east coast and carries on to link up inland with the Harare-Beira road.
