FTW readers have given the thumbs up to an industry initiative to launch an interactive training forum designed to enhance the competence of
shipping staff at all levels.
After analysing the responses to our questionnaire circulated earlier this year, we have chosen the name Freight Focus 2000 which was suggested by Judith Groves of Trencor Containers, Cape Town. She wins the R300 FTW prize.
The first forum will be held on Wednesday July 5 in the auditorium at Safren House in Braamfontein which Safmarine has kindly made available for the event which will be completely
neutral.
Based on reader input, the most popular topics are Documentation, Incoterms and Bills of Lading which will form the basis for the first meeting.
Our panel of experts, Nolene Lossau, executive director of the Shippers' Council, Rod Eaton, chairman of the Association of Ships Agents and Brokers, Des Mooney, chairman of the SA Association of Freight Forwarders Gauteng, and Don Strachan, an educational consultant, will answer any questions put to them on these and other topics of interest.
The facilitator will be Paul Clarke who will keep panellists and attendees on track. A number of prizes will be handed to participants on the day.
A report-back on the forum will appear in FTW as well as FTNow, our sister publication on the Internet.
There will be no charge for the first Freight Focus 2000 which will run from 09:30 to 16:00. Safmarine has agreed to sponsor a finger lunch.
The event will be open to the first 50
people who fax the form on page 15 to FTW. Since numbers are limited due to the venue's space constraints please register only if you are sure that you will be able to attend. A list of no-shows will be published in FTW.
