Naval Serviços a
Navegaçäo has been
setting new performance
records, achieving load
rates in excess of 25000 tons of
magnetite a day.
In 2011 the company acquired
its first Terex bulk handler, costing
in excess of US$1m, and has just
secured a second one, which was
put into operation in August,
according to managing director
Luis Gonçalves.
Naval provides a range
of stevedoring services
predominantly to MPDC and
other port concessionaires such
as Grindrod, DPW, and Mozal,
as well as for vessels and cargo
agents.
“We have a proven track record
in the handling of bulk cargoes,
and have gained experience in a
variety of bulk and break-bulk
cargoes moved through the Port
of Maputo,” says Gonçalves. These
include magnetite, sized coal, iron
ore, ferrochrome, chrome ore,
sugar and citrus.
The company has identified
the need for an extensive training
programme in order to ensure that
the right skills are available in the
port of Maputo.
In August 2013, Naval also
loaded a vessel with 56266t
of iron ore, being the highest
quantity of bulk cargo loaded on
to a single vessel.
Another highlight was the
arrival of the 1000th train of iron
ore delivered from Swaziland since
the commencement of this traffic
in November 2011.
