INDEPENDENT RECOGNITION has come to inland haulage specialist Rail Road Africa in the form of a nomination as one of South Africa’s top empowerment companies in its business sector by Impumelelo: South Africa’s Top 300 Empowerment Companies. Its name will appear in the 2003/4 edition of Impumelelo. Now in its fourth year, Impumelelo provides a comprehensive record of empowerment in the private and public sectors and follows extensive research of over 5 000 of South Africa’s leading companies, municipalities and government departments in 150 sectors of the economy. Each organisation is analysed according to a set of strict entry criteria which take into account the recommendations of Cyril Ramaphosa’s Black Economic Empowerment Commission as well as the Department of Trade and Industry’s BEE scorecard and strategy for broad-based black economic empowerment.
